Here We Go

It's Monday, March 23rd, 2020 and the Province of Ontario is shutting down.  There is a pandemic - the COVID-19 virus is making lots of people very sick around the world, and people everywhere are being told to practice "social distancing" to prevent the infection from spreading too rapidly.

We are trying to make sure that there aren't so many people getting sick that the hospitals and health care workers can't deal with them all.

So, stores and restaurants are all being ordered to close.  Anything that's not an "essential service".  The schools have been closed now for a week for their scheduled March Break, but the Ontario government announced before the holiday started that schools would remain closed for another two weeks after that.   We are staying in the house.  There really isn't anywhere else to go;  the occasional trip to the grocery store is all anybody should be doing now, except for "essential services" work.  At least the weather has been mostly cooperative up until just today.  It was very sunny and, at times, very warm over the last few days, though it did get a bit colder in the last two.  Then, this morning, it snowed!

The birds, who were just getting used to finding their food on bare lawn, seem just as confused this morning as all the people dealing with the pandemic.

I thought it might be fun for my son - he goes by the name "Riptide" - to write a little bit about the things he is experiencing in this pandemic.   I'm going to turn the blog over to him now.
